Large scale forest landscape restoration for Mpira catchment

Malawi Government, yesterday (24.06.21), launched a "Large-scale Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) in Africa: Tree-rich landscapes to foster biodiversity, climate change resilience and better livelihoods project" in Ntcheu District at Mpira Dam. A 5-million Euro project aims to restore 5,000 ha, with impact on 25,000 ha of degraded land in the landscape of Ntcheu district and about 50,000 people living in the landscape are expected to benefit from the project.
The GLFx Lilongwe Chapter aligns itself to the project to provide an inclusive digital and in-person platform on which all actors will be empowered with necessary tools, knowledge, and networks to connect and develop trusted relationships, share knowledge, learn from one another, and act together toward a more sustainable Mpira landscape that is productive, prosperous, equitable and resilient.
The project is funded by the Germany Government. The FAO of the UN is the implementing agency. Other international partners include IUCN, WRI and the World Bank.
The Guest of Honor at the launch was the Minister of Forestry and Natural Resources, Hon. Nancy Tembo MP.
