Launching the Agroecology TPP at #CFS48

On June 3, 2021, the Transformative Partnership Platform (TPP) was officially launched at a side event of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS48)

The Agroecology TPP is a partnership of scientists, practitioners and policy makers working to accelerate agroecological transitions, and this event kickstarted its mission to address knowledge gaps across eight domains that will suport various institutions and advocacy groups in key decision-making processes. With over 450 participants from more than 50 countries, the webinar spread awareness about both agroecology more generally and the TPP specifically, helping to build greater coherence in the debate surrounding how best to respond to world-wide environmental challenges.

Notably, the opening address by His Excellency, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, announced Sri Lanka’s bold new policy action banning the importation of harmful agrochemicals. Decisions like these are essential to improve health and wellbeing for people and the planet. The president’s address concluded with a global call to action for nations and international bodies to address climate change and transform food systems to be more sustainable.

“If we are to preserve the health of our planet and ensure human sustainability, governments the world over must not hesitate to adopt bold policies,” he said.

The event culminated with the member’s adoption of several policy recommendations based on the HLPE (2019) report on agroecology and other food system innovations.
